About This Track

Patrick Watson opens 'Adventures in Your Own Backyard' with a song built on a simple metaphor: the lighthouse as guide home. The track finds him calling for illumination in darkness, asking for a light to cut through the fog of distraction and busy life. There's a gentleness to the plea, a sense of someone trying to find their way back to something half-remembered. The song works as both intimate and expansive. Watson sings of searching in the backyard, in the everyday spaces we overlook, yet the language reaches toward something larger: a return to wildness, to clarity, to being found. The repetition of "won't you shine a little light" becomes both question and invitation, a request that doubles as an offering to others similarly lost.

"Lighthouse" is a track by Patrick Watson, from the album Adventures in Your Own Backyard, released 14th April 2012. The track is 4:46 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 1 article about Patrick Watson.

Lyrics

Lighthouse

Leave a light on in the wild
'Cause I'm coming in a little blind
Dreaming of a lighthouse in the woods
Shinning a little light to bring us back home

Went to find you in the backyard
Hiding behind our busy lives
Dreaming of a lighthouse in the woods
To help us get back into the wild

'Cause I know I've seen you before
Won't you shine
A little light
On us now

Won't you shine a little light
In your backyard

Won't you shine a little light
In your backyard

Dreaming of a lighthouse in the woods
