Marigold finds Periphery wrestling with apathy and mortality, the song structured as a kind of exorcism against the numbness that comes from accepting the mundane. The band moves between resignation and defiance, their protagonist latched to routine whilst aware of time's relentless passage. There is a brutality to the juxtaposition: pushing daisies whilst still feeling the sunshine, young but already staring at the grave. The chorus collapses into a simple, devastating plea: "This place is holding me / Jump through the rope, let's make it credible / When blood is all we see / Life is impossible." A sampled monologue arrives near the song's end, a voice cataloguing the machinery of despair and decline with the tone of someone describing a deliberate strategy. Periphery lets it sit, unanswered, before returning to the refrain and its insistence on finding a spine to work things out. The track balances technical precision with catchiness, the music refusing to soften the weight of what the lyrics carry.
