'DVP' captures a relationship in freefall through the voice of someone spiralling into substance abuse. PUP's protagonist drinks to numb the damage he's causing, alienating his partner and her family whilst hurtling towards crisis. The song moves between moments of self-awareness (admitting he drinks too much, that he needs to grow up) and the paralysis of addiction, where numbness feels safer than feeling anything at all. The track pairs this emotional wreckage with punk rock that matches its urgency: short, sharp, propulsive. A chorus built on a simple, repetitive hook cuts through the noise. The song doesn't offer redemption or a neat resolution. Instead it sits in the uncomfortable space between suicidal ideation and the will to survive, neither option feeling bearable. That tension, unresolved and raw, is what makes it stick.
