'Bones' confronts the prospect of physical decline with a mixture of dread and defiance. Radiohead's lyrics catalogue the body's betrayals: stiffness, fragmentation, the loss of mobility. The song pivots on its chorus, where the repeated refrain "when you've got to feel it in your bones" shifts from complaint to something closer to acceptance, a truth that cannot be argued away. What makes the track oddly triumphant is the gap between its lyrical self-pity and its musical architecture. Colin Greenwood's bass work anchors the song whilst Thom Yorke's vocals soar into the high register on the chorus, all scenery-chewing grandeur. The result is a song that refuses to simply wallow; instead it performs its own contradiction, singing defeatist words over music that refuses to surrender.

About the Artist
Lyrics
I don't want to be crippled and cracked Shoulders, wrists, knees and back Ground to dust and ash Crawling on all fours When you've got to feel it in your bones When you've got to feel it in your bones Now I can't climb the stairs Pieces missing everywhere Prozac painkillers When you've got to feel it in your bones When you've got to feel it in your bones And I used to fly like Peter Pan All the children flew when I touched their hands Listen, you've got to feel it in your bones Listen, you've got to feel it in your bones
