A portrait of resentment and cyclical disappointment, 'Sulk' finds Radiohead in a darker register than much of The Bends. The song circles around patterns of behaviour that repeat regardless of intention: sulking and burning, promises made and broken, the weight of inherited damage. Thom Yorke's lyrics move between accusation and self-recrimination, the narrator caught between watching someone else's dysfunction and recognising it in himself. The music sits in that space too, taut and measured rather than explosive, which makes the emotional damage feel all the more contained. What emerges is a song about the futility of change, about loving someone (or being someone) who cannot break free from their own nature. The repetition of the chorus hammers at this inevitability: the patterns will return, the cycle will continue. It is a song of resignation dressed as observation, and it does its work quietly, which may be why it has remained one of Radiohead's more overlooked tracks despite the precision of its construction.

About the Artist
Lyrics
You bite through the big wall, the big wall bites back You just sit there and sulk, sit there and bawl You are so pretty when you're on your knees Disinfected, eager to please Sometimes you sulk, sometimes you burn God rest your soul When the loving comes and we've already gone Just like your dad, you'll never change Each time it comes it eats me alive I try to behave but it eats me alive So I declare a holiday Fall asleep, drift away Sometimes you sulk, sometimes you burn God rest your soul When the loving comes and we've already gone Just like your dad, you'll never change Sometimes you sulk, sometimes you burn God rest your soul When the loving comes and we've already gone Just like your dad, you'll never change
