'Calligraphy' frames writing as both refuge and reckoning. Saba uses the metaphor of putting pen to paper to process grief, loss, and the weight of staying alive when those around him have not. The track moves between defiance and exhaustion: he does not write for sympathy or performance, but to move through what cannot be buried. Over sparse piano, he admits to struggling to get out of bed, to the presence of his best friend's obituary on his wall, to the difficulty of mourning on a schedule that demands productivity. The chorus pivots the image. Writing becomes a way of writing things away, of converting the people leaving and the pain accumulating into something he can control. It is less catharsis than endurance, less healing than the act of bearing witness to his own life on the page. The repetition of "write it away" suggests both the compulsion and the futility of the gesture, a loop he cannot quite break.
