About This Track

'Us' by SAULT is a 2020 alternative track from the album 'Untitled (Black Is)'. The lyrics set out a defiant challenge to a familiar stereotype, then pivot into collective pride and insistence on Black creativity as something made, shared, and connected, with lines that centre on building, bridging, and belonging. The song voices the idea that advantage has origins, and that “they got it from us” is both an answer and a reminder of who should be credited.

"Us" is a track by SAULT, from the album Untitled (Black Is), released 18th June 2020. The track is 1:06 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 4 articles about SAULT.

Lyrics

Us

I don't believe in the myth of the angry black woman
I believe in the magic of blackness
See, we are the builders
We are the bridges
We are the connections that stick and that lead you to riches
You wonder where they got it from
Well, they got it from us
Their novelty is our natural
Their rehearsal is our off-the-cuff
If you ever feel not enough, know this
You are gold
You are rubies
You are diamonds
Little black girl, you are exalted
