About This Track

'Headlights' by Squirrel flower is a 2020 rock song from the album 'I Was Born Swimming'. The lyrics trace a late drive through a wooded, misted valley, with the view tightening into something eerie and cool as the narrator realises they are “not getting older”. The headlights become a shifting instrument of perspective, especially when looking back, framing a mountain mystery and a homebound love that is also described as internal.

"Headlights" is a track by Squirrel flower, from the album I Was Born Swimming, released 31st January 2020. The track is 2:34 long. It's filed under Rock. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Headlights

Driving through
A wooded valley
West of state.
Mist thrown at the car
In shrouded pockets
Ghostly and cool.

Realize I'm not getting older
But I'm not getting younger.
Headlights look different
When I'm looking over my shoulder.

Mountain mystery
A love at home, a love within.
It makes me wonder
But why would I even go there?

Gotta say goodbye
I gotta get going
Nothing really feels right
And I fear it might be showing.

Realize I'm not getting older
But I'm not getting younger.
Headlights look different
When I'm looking over my shoulder.

Headlights look different
When I'm looking...
