A portrait of life in a secret tweaker pad, where the narrator finds contentment in small pleasures and the company of those he trusts. Sublime build the track around a reggae-inflected groove and a chorus that insists, with genuine warmth, that love and loyalty are all that matter. The production is unhurried, the mood one of resignation mixed with defiance: the pad is a refuge, but also a trap, a place where the outside world cannot reach but also where escape feels impossible. The lyrics move between moments of domestic calm, designing tattoos, learning to cook, working on a car, and the paranoia that comes with living on the margins. There is violence in the language, casual and ugly, but the song's emotional centre sits elsewhere, in the refrain that frames everything: "all that I need" is community, loyalty, the Kingston sound. It is a song about making do, about finding joy in constraint, about the price of invisibility.
"S.T.P." is a track by Sublime, from the album Robbin’ the Hood, released 8th February 1994. Full lyrics are available below.
