About This Track
Written and produced by Brian Alexander Morgan for SWV's debut studio album 'It's About Time', 'Weak' arrived in 1992 as a portrait of first love rendered in physical terms. Morgan composed the lyrics based on the experience of falling in love for the first time, reportedly inspired by his crush on singer Chanté Moore, and the trio's delivery turns that vulnerability into precision.
The verses catalogue the disorientation, racing pulse, loss of control, knees buckling, with a directness that never tips into melodrama. SWV frame the condition as both affliction and surrender, the chorus hinging on the admission that the cause and cure are the same person. The production holds steady whilst the vocal arrangement builds, each repetition of the hook tightening the song's grip rather than exhausting it.
The track's endurance lies in its refusal to overcomplicate the central metaphor. Desire as a kind of temporary incapacity, sweet enough to want to prolong: the lyric stays inside that paradox and the performance never wavers.
"Weak" is a single by SWV, released 10th April 1993. Full lyrics are available below.
