'STUD' opens with a soulful piano before snappy beats and deep bass drop in, the production moving through several distinct moods. Troye Sivan sings about desire and physical attraction, but the song's real tension lies in its self-awareness. He wants to believe in the connection, wants to be enough, but knows this is temporary. The lyrics circle around a kind of performative confidence, asking whether he can be what someone else needs whilst suspecting the answer is no. The track builds through warping synths and a hypnotic vocal loop, Sivan's voice layered and insistent. There's a restlessness to it all, a quality of searching for something just out of reach. The song doesn't resolve so much as accept its own impermanence, the repeated refrain settling into a kind of resigned pleasure. It's a portrait of desire without illusion, attraction without the pretence of permanence.
"STUD" is a track by Troye Sivan, from the album In A Dream - EP, released 20th August 2020. The track is 3:30 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 13 articles about Troye Sivan.
