About This Track
You're in my head, the song begins, and from there V traces the blur between friendship and something deeper. A relationship that stretches back years becomes the frame for a confession: the speaker is tired of pretending that what passes between them is platonic. The production, courtesy of Connor McDonough and Riley McDonough, sits somewhere between restraint and intimacy, letting the vocal carry the weight of unspoken feeling. The title itself is the argument. 'FRI(END)S' brackets the word "end" in parentheses, a visual pun that doubles as a proposal: if you're going to end the friendship, let's do it honestly. The chorus circles this idea with a kind of weary logic. Friends don't speak in ways that make you feel like more than friends, yet here they are, doing exactly that. By the final chorus, the speaker has stopped negotiating with themselves. The pretence is over.
