André Lauren Benjamin, born May 27, 1975, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He is one half of the hip-hop duo Outkast, which he formed with rapper Big Boi in 1992. He is recognized for his early use of rap-singing. In 2025, Benjamin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Outkast. The duo's six studio albums received critical and commercial success, producing hit singles such as 'Ms. Jackson,' 'Roses,' 'So Fresh, So Clean,' and 'Elevators (Me & You).' Their 2003 double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, included Benjamin's solo single 'Hey Ya!,' which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards.
