William Michael Albert Broad, known professionally as Billy Idol, is an English rock singer born on 30 November 1955. He gained prominence in the 1970s on the London punk rock scene as the lead vocalist of Generation X. The band released three studio albums on Chrysalis Records before disbanding. In 1981, Idol relocated to New York City to pursue a solo career, collaborating with guitarist Steve Stevens. His self-titled debut solo album, released in 1982, achieved commercial success. Idol became a prominent figure on MTV with music videos for singles such as 'Dancing with Myself' and 'White Wedding.' His second album, Rebel Yell, released in 1983, included hit singles 'Rebel Yell' and 'Eyes Without a Face,' and was a major commercial success.
