Kim Petras is a German singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. She attracted international attention for transitioning as a teenager. Petras released her debut EP, One Piece of Tape, in 2011 and has written tracks for artists including Fergie, JoJo, Skylar Stecker, and Twice. Her debut single, 'I Don't Want It at All,' was released in August 2017. She followed with the single 'Heart to Break' in 2018, which reached number 52 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Her discography includes the albums Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1 (2018), Clarity (2019), and Turn Off the Light (2019), along with the single 'How It's Done,' featured on the soundtrack of Charlie's Angels. In 2020, her track 'Broken Glass' charted at number 23 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Petras signed with a Republic Records imprint in 2021. That year, she became the first openly transgender artist to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Her 2022 album Slut Pop includes the track 'Throat Goat,' which went viral in 2023 after a sign language interpreter provided an explicit translation at Sydney World Pride.
