The latest offering from
Kim Petras' upcoming third studio album
'Detour' has arrived.
'Need for Speed' is the fourth track to emerge from the record, released through BunHead Records, the independent label Petras founded back in 2016.
Behind the boards, the track brings together Petras herself alongside
Margo XS, Frost Children and
nightfeelings as producers, with additional writing credits for
Margo Wildman, Angel Prost, Lulu Prost, Nick Weiss and
Madison Love.
Ashley Hood directs the accompanying visual, which depicts Petras leaving behind a world of manufactured celebrity.
Speaking about the track, Petras said that 'Need for Speed' is about the "constant push for more hits and more success, which ultimately erases your personality until your only personality trait is being so busy and fast that you basically don't have a life." She added that she wanted to "describe this feeling of being in a machine, but wanting to break out of it and feeling like you've become this monster version of yourself that isn't able to let anyone in because there is nothing there except the need for going further and faster."
Earlier this year, Petras put out a four-track EP titled '
Pretour' exclusively through YouTube and SoundCloud, comprising '
Pop Sound', 'Mr Producer (feat. BC Kingdom)', '
Cha Cha' and 'Get Some (feat. Cortisa Star)'. Three other album tracks - '
Polo', '
Freak It' and '
I Like Ur Look' - have also already surfaced.
