Panic! at the Disco was an American pop rock band formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2004 by high school friends Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith. They recruited classmates Brendon Urie and Brent Wilson to complete the initial lineup. The band recorded their first demos while still in high school and released their debut studio album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, in 2005. The album included the single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," which was certified diamond in the United States, and the album itself was certified quadruple platinum. In 2006, Brent Wilson was dismissed from the band during a world tour and was replaced by Jon Walker. Their second album, Pretty. Odd., was released in 2008, featuring the single "Nine in the Afternoon," and represented a notable change in musical style from their debut. Ross and Walker left the band due to disagreements over the band's evolving direction, leading to Brendon Urie operating as the sole member from 2015 until the band's discontinuation in 2023.
