The Beach Boys are an American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's founding members included brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. They are recognized for their vocal harmonies, musical innovation, and lyrics that initially reflected a southern California youth culture centered on surfing, cars, and romance, often referred to as the "California sound." The band drew inspiration from 1950s rock and roll, black R&B, and pre-rock and roll pop vocal groups. Under Brian Wilson's leadership, they incorporated classical and jazz elements and employed unconventional recording techniques. The Wilsons' father, Murry Wilson, managed the band and focused on Brian's songwriting, arranging, and production. Jardine was replaced by David Marks during 1962–1963. Their second record, 'Surfin' Safari' (1962), was released through Capitol Records and initiated a five-year streak of 16 consecutive U.S. top 40 hit singles.
