The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band originally included Wayne Coyne, who remains a member, along with Michael Ivins, Steven Drozd, and others. Coyne is the only founding member remaining after Ivins left in 2021. Steven Drozd was a key member from 1991 to 2024, contributing as a co-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. The band initially played garage punk and noise pop, later exploring more psychedelic and experimental music. During the 1980s and early 1990s, they released several albums and EPs on the indie label Restless. After signing with Warner Brothers, they released 'Hit to Death in the Future Head' (1992), 'Transmissions from the Satellite Heart' (1993), which included the single 'She Don't Use Jelly.' Their 1999 album 'The Soft Bulletin' was named NME magazine's Album of the Year, and their 2002 release 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' received critical acclaim. In 2007, they were nominated for a BRIT Award for Best International Act.
