This month, we nab Georgia to spy on 24 hours in her life.
You know what’s easier than following around your fave pop stars, day in, day out, to see what they’re up to right that minute? Asking them. This month, we nab Georgia.
8:00am → My alarm goes! I get up, I do my gratitude lists, and I lie on my Shakti mat for 20 minutes. And then go make coffee asap.
9:00am → Out the door to the gym, coffee and banana in hand, ready to slay in the gym. Work/weight training for 45 minutes, swim for 45 minutes (I have ADHD, so the exercise really helps with the dopamine levels).
11:00am → Into my studio, have a clean up and light an incense, and open the Logic session from the previous day. I’ll sit and listen to what I wrote yesterday and write notes on what I need to achieve by the end of the day, but sometimes that doesn’t really happen.
12:00Pm → I’ll prepare my first meal of the day and have lunch! I’m a bit of an intermittent faster, so I tend not to eat breakfast. I know it’s bad, but I make sure I eat a super nutritious lunch, a protein and salad, and from now on, it’s water. Oh wait, Mrs Bridges is asking for some food, the house cat.
1:00Pm → Back to the studio, turn on all the synths. I’m particularly focusing on experimenting with sounds on my Arp2600. This was the synth that created the 'Thriller' bass line! Turning on the synths is like switching on the beating heart of the studio. Once they are all on, I feel like I can get into the creation; they’re my collaborators.
2:00Pm → Oh no! A synth has stopped working! I think one of the outputs of my SP1200 has a hum on it! Let’s get the soldering kit out… just another day of a woman running her own studio. I learnt to solder when I was 16 years old at Konk studios in North London.
5:00Pm → Oh god, I need a break! I’ll sit in the garden! And catch a few breaths outside! Maybe I need a cuppa of tea, actually! Breaks are really important, especially if you suffer from ADHD; hyper-focusing for hours can really mess up my week.
7:00Pm → I’m tired! Maybe it’s time for dinner! It’s hard at this point, muscling the energy and knowing what to eat. Sometimes I find that a quick rice noodle dish with a salad hits the spot and is quick, easy and nutritious. There are a few more things I need to finish off in the studio! I need to record some vocals! And for this, I need to set up NeumanU87. This can take some time, as it goes through my Neve preamp/EQ and then through the 1176limiter, as I don’t have Tris, my engineer today. I will have to leave some time to get all the settings correct… quick slurp of the noodles.
9:00Pm → Great, all the vocals are done. I think I’ll leave the editing for tomorrow, as this can take a while, and I need to approach it with fresh ears. One more job required, I need to listen to a mix I did and send some notes. Yawnnn!!! I’m starting to get tired! But need to push on, need to get this new album finished! Oh, a rumble in the studio! That’s the big freight trains that run past the house on the tracks at this time. I like the sound of the trains as it reminds me of being in London, which is my hometown (cue Adele 'Hometown Glory' lol).
11:00Pm → Time to lock the studio up! Today was actually really productive, which is great, but lots of times it’s not. I find those days are needed so the good ones can come! I even managed to solder! Luckily, my studio is in my garden, so not a long or busy commute. Just have to avoid the frogs that come from my next-door neighbour’s tropical garden. God dammit! I find frogs cute but scary. I’ll have a bath now, wind down and get into bed. And do it all again the next day.
