Mixtape features the best new tracks and biggest stories, updated regularly by the Dork team.
"You can never please everybody, and that's not what I'm here for," says Violet Grohl. The daughter of the Foo Fighters' frontman has regularly performed with the stadium titans since their 2019 festival run, and there have been a couple of high-profile charity gigs where she's joined the surviving members of Nirvana. Unsurprisingly, her unapologetic debut album 'Be Sweet To Me' features plenty of grunge and high-octane arena rock influences, as well as nods to dream pop, garage punk and shoegaze.
"I see no point in trying to hide from [where I've come from] or trying to pretend that isn't my reality," Violet tells Dork, explaining there are both benefits and downsides to having one of the most recognisable surnames in modern rock. "People will get pissed off if you talk about it, or if you ignore it," she says. "I'm doing this because I am who I am, I come from where I come from, and that has created who I am today. I'm not here to be an idealised version of something for somebody else," she says after a hectic few weeks that have seen her visiting Australia, Europe and Asia to promote 'Be Sweet To Me'. "If you want to put yourself out there, you have to put yourself out there," she shrugs. "Singing and making music have always been what I love to do the most."
