Arctic Monkeys have announced the details of their seventh studio album, ‘The Car’.
The album – featuring ten new tracks – will be released on 21st October 2022. News of the album was announced in a new interview with The Big Issue, which you can read online here.
“I think we’ve got closer to a better version of a more dynamic overall sound with this record,” Turner told The Big Issue. “The strings on this record come in and out of focus and that was a deliberate move and hopefully everything has its own space. There’s time the band comes to the front and then the strings come to the front.”
A press release states that: “following 2018’s ‘Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino’, ‘The Car’ finds Arctic Monkeys running wild in a new and sumptuous musical landscape and contains some of the richest and most rewarding vocal performances of Alex Turner’s career.”
The band debuted their first taster of the album live in Zurich last night, performing ‘I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am’ for the first time. You can check out footage here.
Written by Alex Turner, ‘The Car’ was produced by James Ford and recorded at Butley Priory, Suffolk, La Frette, Paris and RAK Studios, London.

The tracklisting for ‘The Car’ reads:
- There’d Better Be A Mirrorball
- I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am
- Sculptures Of Anything Goes
- Jet Skis On The Moat
- Body Paint
