Bonnie Kemplay has announced her new EP ‘Someone, somewhere’, due for release on 31st July via Dirty Hit.
Alongside the announcement, the Scottish songwriter has shared new single ‘Paper Angel’, a fingerpicked, introspective track exploring self-doubt, memory and resilience.
“Paper Angel is about the fear of failure and looking after your inner-child,” Kemplay explains. “I wrote it around the memory of my first musical performance in a nativity in which I didn't sing a word, and the feeling of hesitation and self-doubt that stays with me as an adult.”
The new EP follows recent singles ‘Big Machine’ and ‘Dandelions’, continuing a run of more personal, reflective songwriting from the 24-year-old artist.
Speaking about the wider themes behind ‘Someone, somewhere’, Kemplay says: “This EP lives somewhere between transition and memory. A few of the songs were written in times of change and uncertainty like moving cities and dealing with a long-term injury.”
She continues: “Many of the songs explore childhood memories and navigating evolving relationships with myself and other people.”
She’ll head out on a run of UK dates next month supporting Katie Gregson-MacLeod, before a Glasgow show with Curiosity Shop later in June.
