Kayla Grace has announced her new EP ‘Cats Can Surf’, set for release on 21st March via Manifest Music, alongside sharing new single ‘a leith ross song’.
The seven-track EP follows her 2023 debut ‘Glass Child’ and includes recent single ‘Berlin’. The new collection has been produced by Barns Noble, with the 22-year-old Watford-born songwriter continuing to develop her storytelling approach.
‘a leith ross song’ pays tribute to Leith Ross’ ‘We’ll Never Have Sex’, exploring themes of intimacy and romance. “I wrote a leith ross song after meeting someone really special. On the surface, it’s a queer love song, but if you listen closely, there’s so much more to it.
“After hearing We’ll Never Have Sex by Leith Ross, I found myself looking at intimacy and romance in a completely new way. It made me realise how sad it is that safety and respect for consent feel like rare qualities these days.
“When I met this person, they embodied the sweet, beautiful sentiment of that Leith Ross song, seeing me as so much more than just sex, and everything in between. I wrote a leith ross song out of love for them, but also out of love for the song that first inspired it,” Grace explains.
Grace is currently working on new material with Hugo Silvani of Pale Waves and Benjamin Francis Leftwich, with Silvani set to join her live band on guitar for upcoming performances.
