The Brooklyn Paramount is a 2,700-capacity music venue in Downtown Brooklyn, at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues, originally opened in 1928 as a lavish Rapp and Rapp movie palace. In its first life it hosted jazz, blues and the early rock and roll package shows of the 1950s; from 1962 it was closed off and converted into a basketball gymnasium for Long Island University, where it remained out of public musical use for decades. A major restoration returned it to its original purpose, and the theatre reopened as a live venue in 2024, with Live Nation operating it and many of the original architectural details, including its Wurlitzer organ, preserved. Its history runs from Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis through Alan Freed's rock and roll bills featuring Chuck Berry and Fats Domino, a heritage the revived venue now trades on.
