Laura-Mary Carter has teamed up with IDLES' Lee Kiernan for "a bittersweet weather report" - new single 'June Gloom'
Blood Red Shoes' Laura-Mary Carter releases melancholic indie single 'June Gloom' with IDLES guitarist Lee Kiernan, ahead of solo debut album.

Laura-Mary Carter of Blood Red Shoes has announced her debut solo album 'Bye Bye Jackie', alongside sharing new single 'June Gloom' featuring IDLES' Lee Kiernan.
The track sees Carter moving away from Blood Red Shoes' signature sound, exploring elements of melancholy indie, British noir, and Americana. The single arrives ahead of her solo album, which was written on Spanish guitar and recorded in Hackney with producers Oscar Robertson and David Bardon.
"June Gloom is a bittersweet weather report that captures the weird timing of sadness – how it shows up just when things start to feel okay," Carter explains. "Blending dry humour with emotional honesty, it draws on SoCal's signature overcast season as a metaphor for that familiar inner fog. Featuring a guest lead from Lee Kiernan (IDLES), it's equal parts funeral planning and cosmic shrug."
Born to Irish parents in Greater London's suburbs, Carter's debut solo record explores themes of love's beauty and fragility, drawing influence from The Velvet Underground, The Ronettes, and Beck. The album follows her two-decade career with Blood Red Shoes, during which the band have released six albums.
