Following his recent comeback with the new single ‘
Forget Me’,
Lewis Capaldi has announced the upcoming arrival of his new full-length album, ‘
Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’.
This second LP will be released on May 19th 2023 via EMI Records, so there’s still a wait ahead - plenty of time to try out one of
Capaldi’s own frozen pizzas, then.
The news follows his chart-topping comeback single, ‘Forget Me’ (“I meet lady, lady leaves me, I whine about it in a pop song”), which was the Glasgow singer’s first new material since his debut record, ‘
Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’. The 12-tracker, originally released in May 2019, would go on to become the UK’s highest-selling album of that year, and the year to follow.
Moving forwards, then,
Capaldi didn’t have much of a desire to change his tactics. “I don't want to create a new sound for myself, or reinvent myself,” he states. “The songs I want to write are emotional songs, about love or loss.”
Instead, the singer decided to find an atmosphere from which he felt comfortable to create: “I felt like I was sounding better because I was just chilled out in my own gaff,”
Lewis recalls. “Also, a lot of this record was made with most of the same people who I worked with on the first one: TMS, Phil Plested, Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway. At least one of them's on almost every song.”
Although he has used 2022’s various performances - including headline sets at TRNSMT and Latitude festivals - to admit that he’s terrified to see how the new material will go down, it seems the success of ‘Forgot Me’ has eased
Capaldi up a bit. “I’m ready,” he announces, “and so are the songs.”
