Mia Wray has shared new single
'Not Enough', taken from her forthcoming debut album
'Hi, It's Nice To Meet Me', due 14th March.
The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter's latest track explores themes of secret love and self-discovery, drawing inspiration from literature. The song arrives as the third single from her upcoming record, following '
Fake A Smile' and '
Nice To Meet Me'.
"During COVID I started really getting into reading. I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo… this was all before my gay awakening. It's so funny, it's like your body knows before your brain catches up," Wray explains. "It's about two Hollywood actresses who secretly date. I ended up going on to write some of the song with Pip Norman and Rob Amoruso."
"I was like, 'Guys, there's this book that I read!' And I think that was my way of, subconsciously, slowly coming to terms with my sexuality. I was like, 'I want to write a song about this, but I don't want you to know it's about me. I don't want you to know that I may be gay, so let's base it on this queer book.'"
Speaking about the album title, she shares: "The first thing I had in my notes was that I felt like I was saying hello to myself for the first time in a really long time. 'Hi, it's nice to meet me' just kept coming up in my brain as a theme. I thought it was cool and unique, I hadn't really seen that around a lot. It felt right. It was a real slap in the face like, 'Oh that's who I am, that makes sense…'"
