MJ Lenderman will no longer tour with Wednesday, but continues recording with band

He played his final live show with the group in Japan earlier this year.

MJ Lenderman has announced his departure from Wednesday’s live lineup, whilst confirming he will continue to contribute to the band’s recorded output.

The Asheville, North Carolina musician, who joined Wednesday in 2020 following an invitation from lead singer Karly Hartzman, played his final live show with the group in Japan earlier this year. The news was revealed in a new profile for GQ.

A new member named Jake has joined their live lineup, though no further details about the newest addition have been shared.

Lenderman’s involvement with Wednesday began after Hartzman transformed the project from its solo origins in 2017. The two musicians were previously in a romantic relationship, which has since ended.

The announcement follows a productive period for both acts. Wednesday released their album ‘Rat Saw God’ last year, while Lenderman has maintained an active solo career, releasing ‘Boat Songs’ in 2022 and ‘Manning Fireworks’ in 2024. He continues to tour with his band, the Wind.
