Sufjan Stevens has planned a 10th anniversary edition of ‘Carrie & Lowell’ with unreleased demos

Sufjan Stevens will release a deluxe anniversary edition of ‘Carrie & Lowell’ featuring unreleased demos, an art book, and worldwide listening events.

Sufjan Stevens is set to release a 10th anniversary deluxe edition of ‘Carrie & Lowell’ through Asthmatic Kitty Records on 30th May.

The new edition features the original album alongside seven previously unreleased demo versions of tracks, including ‘Death With Dignity (Demo)’, which has been shared alongside a lyric video directed by Rena Johnson. The release also includes a 40-page art book, an alternate cover, and a new essay written by Stevens.

The album, which marked Stevens’ return to his folk roots, was originally released in March 2015. The record saw Stevens collaborate with producer Thomas Bartlett, creating a deliberately sparse instrumentation that dealt with themes of life, death, and processing grief following the passing of his mother.

To mark the release, Pitchblack Playback Sessions will take place across multiple cities, offering listeners the opportunity to experience the album in complete darkness. The dates in full read:
