Waterparks have addressed Danny Elfman's involvement on upcoming album 'Jinx'

Frontman Awsten Knight has responded after the tracklist for Waterparks' forthcoming album 'Jinx' revealed a collaboration with Danny Elfman, the veteran film scorer who has faced multiple sexual misconduct allegations in recent years.

Knight posted a statement acknowledging the situation, writing: "I found out the same way y'all did a couple days after announcing the album. It's my fault for not digging deeper than I did beforehand and I take responsibility for that. Although this may not suffice for everyone, which I do understand, it really is the most that I'm able to say. I'm truly beyond sorry for everything and I promise we're doing our best to learn and grow, and we'll be better because of it moving forward."

Elfman voices "the devil" on 'Tell Me Why', the opening track of 'Jinx'. The song also features contributions from Blink-182's Mark Hoppus, Foxy Shazam's Eric Nally, and DJ Dillon Francis. It appears his involvement on the record will remain intact despite the apology.

The allegations surrounding Elfman stretch back to 2023, when composer Nomi Abadi took legal action over unpaid instalments relating to a sexual harassment settlement. A separate Jane Doe brought additional accusations of sexual misconduct that same year. Abadi subsequently filed a defamation suit in 2024 after Elfman publicly denied her claims through Rolling Stone; a Superior Court judge has since rejected Elfman's anti-SLAPP motion, and proceedings continue. The Jane Doe's case was dismissed on technical grounds, with Elfman countersuing for malicious prosecution.

None of this has notably impacted Elfman's professional output. He features prominently in A$AP Rocky's recent 'Don't Be Dumb' album rollout and is scheduled to perform near the top of the bill at this weekend's Sick New World festival in Las Vegas.
