About Kim Gordon
Kim Althea Gordon, born on April 28, 1953, in Rochester, New York, is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. She was raised in Los Angeles, California, where her father was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, she moved to New York City to pursue an art career. In 1981, she formed the band Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore. Gordon and Moore married in 1984. Sonic Youth released six albums on independent labels before signing with DGC Records, beginning with 'Goo' in 1990, and released a total of nine studio albums on that label. She was also a founding member of the musical project Free Kitten, which she formed with Julia Cafritz in 1993. Sonic Youth's final studio album, 'The Eternal,' was released in 2009 on Matador Records, and the band disbanded in 2011 following Gordon and Moore's separation. After Sonic Youth, Gordon formed the experimental duo Body/Head with Bill Nace, releasing their debut album, 'Coming Apart,' in 2013.
Kim Gordon - Sonic Youth co-founder, visual artist and lifelong disruptor - is back with her third solo album 'Play Me'. It's a fierce, funny record that dares AI (and everyone else) to keep up.
