About Pulp
Pulp are a British rock band formed in Sheffield in 1978. The band’s lineup included Jarvis Cocker (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Russell Senior (guitar, violin), Candida Doyle (keyboards), Nick Banks (drums, percussion), Steve Mackey (bass), and Mark Webber (guitar, keyboards). Their lyrics often featured "kitchen sink drama" themes and references to British culture. The band experienced limited success during the 1980s but gained prominence in the UK in the mid-1990s with the release of His 'n' Hers (1994), which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Their subsequent album, Different Class (1995), won the Mercury Prize, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and produced four top ten singles, including "Common People" and "Mis-Shapes/Sorted for E's & Wizz." Their sixth album, This Is Hardcore (1998), also debuted at number one in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Pulp headlined the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival twice and was considered part of the Britpop "big four," alongside Blur, Oasis, and Suede.
