About This Track

‘String’ by Alex G is a 2012 alternative track from the album ‘Trick’. The lyrics address impatience and misaligned speed, with the repeated question “Are you a girl on a string?” suggesting someone feeling controlled or tugged along. There is also a jokey, film-minded aside about making an exit, before the conversation sharpens back into a direct challenge about whether the other person has noticed what is going on.

"String" is a track by Alex G, from the album Trick, released 5th November 2012. The track is 4:55 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 10 articles about Alex G.

Lyrics

String

I do believe you're moving at a pace
A little bit too slow for my taste
It's such a funny movie, why not go?
Yeah, don't you think you ought to know?
Are you a girl on a string?
Are you a girl on a string?
Are you a girl on a string?
Are you a girl on a string?
Would you mind if I came back to you?
We could listen to the music you're into
It's such a crazy party, why not go?
Yeah, don't you think you ought to know?
Are you a girl on a string?
Are you a girl on a string?
Are you a girl on a string?
Are you a girl on a string?
