About This Track
'High School' traces the arc of a teenage romance that couldn't survive the world beyond it. Alexander 23 recalls a relationship forged in stolen moments, underage drinking, and the casual lawlessness of youth, before life's momentum pulled them apart. The song is built on a simple, aching question: how did we get here, and how do we get back? The chorus pivots from nostalgia to acceptance. He was her best friend first, and that bond is what he misses most now. The specifics of their divergence remain unspoken, but the implication is clear: they were just kids doing their best when everything else got in the way. What might have survived college, what might have survived anything, remains forever unknown. The song sits in that gap between what was and what could have been, neither bitter nor resolved.
