Aminé flexes with the ease of someone who has already won. 'Blackjack' moves through its two minutes with the casual confidence of a track that knows exactly what it is: a showcase of material wealth, romantic conquest, and the kind of self-regard that needs no justification. The production, courtesy of Pasqué alongside Davon Jamison and Aminé himself, sits somewhere between trap and the kind of stripped-back hip-hop that lets the voice do the work. He stacks boasts without strain, the rhythm of his delivery matching the rhythm of accumulation he describes. The song's appeal lies partly in its refusal to complicate itself. There is no narrative arc, no vulnerability, no twist. Aminé is on a high; everyone else is on the low. The chorus repeats this geometry with the kind of directness that works because it is repeated, because the beat holds, because the voice never wavers. It is the sound of someone entirely at ease with his own company, and with the idea that you might want to be in it too.
"BLACKJACK" is a track by Aminé, from the album ONEPOINTFIVE, released 15th August 2018. Full lyrics are available below.
