About This Track

'Star' is a seduction built on admiration. Bazzi moves through the track with the ease of someone convinced he's found something rare, cataloguing details with the precision of a man half-drunk on both substances and infatuation. The production sits somewhere between late-night lounge and contemporary R&B, all rolled cigars and Hollywood boulevard fantasy, whilst the lyrics drift between genuine compliment and the kind of flattery that only lands when you're not entirely sober. He sees stardom in her, or at least the potential for it, and the song becomes an argument for why she should believe in herself as much as he does. What keeps it from tipping into pure seduction is the sincerity underneath. Bazzi's voice carries a kind of wonder throughout, less swagger than genuine amazement at the person in front of him. The refrain settles into something almost tender: he's not just listing her qualities, he's trying to convince her that she deserves the life she imagines. It's a love song dressed up as a compliment, and it works because he sounds like he means it.

"Star" is a track by Bazzi, from the album COSMIC, released 12th April 2018. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Star

[Verse 1]

Faded off of that bottle

Livin' like no tomorrow

I like you 'cause I'm lifted

And you like me 'cause I'm gifted

Buttoned down in designer

That Dolce and that Gabbana

Painted just like an angel

I thank the Lord that he made you

[Refrain]

I see it in your eyes

Passion you can't deny

Girl, we can live that life

I see it all

[Pre-Chorus]

There we are

Smokin' on rolled cigars

Hollywood boulevard

I can see it all now

You could be

Bigger than your fantasies

Standing right next to me

[Chorus]

I see it all now

You're a star

I can see it all now

You look...

[Verse 2]

Like you straight out a movie

Naked in the jacuzzi

Stuntin' like you Madonna

That beautiful persona

Energy go crazy

I might have your babies

And I don't usually say this

I swear it's not 'cause I'm faded

[Refrain]

I see it in your eyes

Passion you can't deny

Girl, we can live that life

I see it all

[Pre-Chorus]

There we are

Smokin' on rolled cigars

Hollywood boulevard

I can see it all now

You could be

Bigger than your fantasies

Standing right next to me

[Chorus]

I see it all now

You're a star

I can see it all now

You look...

[Outro]

There we are

Smokin' on rolled cigars

Hollywood boulevard

I see it all now

You're a star
