About This Track

Blackbear's 'something real' pivots on a single refrain: the speaker and their lover were too young to feel anything genuine. The song moves between accusation and self-awareness, the narrator blaming their partner for the relationship's failure whilst acknowledging their own complicity. Beneath the recrimination sits a melancholy recognition that youth itself might have been the obstacle, that intensity and authenticity were beyond reach. The track pairs this emotional ambivalence with a loose, conversational vocal delivery. Blackbear sketches scenes of excess, minibar bottles, late-night drives, drunken arguments, as evidence of a relationship that burned bright but never quite deepened. The repetition of "too young to feel something real" becomes both excuse and epitaph, a way of processing the gap between what was wanted and what could actually be felt.
