About This Track

'Alien Waves' is a 2014 song by Cavetown, from the album 'Gd vibes'. In the lyrics, a spoken intro imagines sitting in the evening to watch the sky, feeling small against its scale, then finding comfort in that insignificance. The chorus leans into uncertainty, with the speaker admitting, “I don't really know how to write”.

Lyrics

Alien Waves

[Spoken Intro]

I sit here to look in the sky in the evening and stuff

When I'm, when I'm out and I realise how big it is compared to us

And we're completely insignificant really, but I mean

That's okay, because I like it that way, or something

[Chorus]

I don't really know how to write poetry

But on nights like these the words seem to flow straight through me

I don't think you truly understand how much this means to me

I don't really know how to write poetry

But on nights like these the words seem to come straight to me

And waves of silence and the way the trees they sway so slowly

I don't truly understand it all

I don't really know how to write poetry

But on nights like these the words seem to flow straight through me

I don't think you truly understand how much this means to me

[Spoken Bridge]

When you're going to sleep and you’re like, "Whoa"

What the heck am I doing here

Oh my god

I’m gonna try to get to the point up to it’s

You are a person, I’m a person, and we’re just objects that are obsolete

[Outro]

What do you want now

What do you want now

What do you want now

What you want now

What do you want now

What do you want now

I know something you want

What you want now

I know something you want

Tell me what you want

Tell me what you want

Tell me what you want

Tell me what you want

Tell me what you want

Tell me what you want

What do you want

Whoa
