About This Track
Chris Martin and Tove Lo frame a relationship in its final moments, finding strange comfort in retrospection. The song moves through premonition and acceptance, Martin's voice tracing the arc from foreknowledge of the end to a kind of defiant tenderness. The production sits somewhere between resignation and uplift, the chorus asking the question that matters most: didn't we have fun? The lyrics pivot on that refrain, refusing to let the ending erase what came before. Where a song about a breakup might dwell in recrimination, 'Fun' insists on the validity of the time shared, the "forever always" that felt real even if it couldn't last. Lo's presence in the second half shifts the dynamic from monologue to dialogue, two voices acknowledging the collision and the cost, then circling back to the same question. The bridge settles into something almost resigned, a recognition of what was meant to be, before the final twist: "maybe we could again". It's not quite hope, but it's not quite closure either.
