About This Track
Released in October 2019 as the lead single from Coldplay's eighth studio album 'Everyday Life', 'Orphans' appears on the record's second half, titled Sunset. The band wrote the track with production handled by The Dream Team, pairing a bright, almost buoyant melody with lyrics that sketch two figures displaced by conflict in Damascus. Rosaleem and Baba each recall lives interrupted by war, their memories of almond and peach trees, silver-screen ambitions, and ordinary social rituals now out of reach. The refrain circles a single longing: the desire to return and be young again. Coldplay frame the violence obliquely, the bombs rendered as rhythmic onomatopoeia rather than graphic detail, whilst the closing lines shift from individual loss to a broader wish for connection that outlasts the wreckage. The song was released alongside 'Arabesque' as a double A-side, both tracks previewing the thematic scope of an album that moved between geographies and registers with unusual ambition for the band.
"Orphans" is a single by Coldplay, released 24th October 2019. The track is 3:18 long. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 12 articles about Coldplay.
