About This Track

'Driving Lesson' by Garbage is a 1996 track on 'Garbage (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)'. The lyrics lean into a playful road-trip fantasy, urging you to get behind the wheel and head out for elevated, chilly destinations, with the mood set to “nice and slow”. Car imagery drives the whole song, from the call to hop in to the repeated insistence on getting moving, as if the journey itself is the lesson.

"Driving Lesson" is a track by Garbage, from the album Garbage (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition), released 11th March 1996. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 5 articles about Garbage.

Lyrics

Driving Lesson

[Intro]

Car, car, car

Car, car, car

[Verse 1]

Let's get behind the wheel

We'll go driving

To the mountains

To the rooftops

We can take it nice and slow

I'll be driving

To the icebergs

To the edges

[Chorus]

Car, get in the car

Car, get in the car

[Verse 2]

Head in to the clouds

Past the buildings

By the harbour

Through the storm

Tear across the page

By the marker

Leave the light on

By the poolside

[Chorus]

Car, get in the car

Car, get in the car

[Bridge]

I can make an honest man of you

I can make you clean if you want me to

I can make you go very far

[Chorus]

Just take the car

Get in the car

Car, get in the car

[Outro]

Take the car

Get in that car

Take the car

Get in that car

Take the car

[Whispered lyrics]

Gotta feel to make it real

Anytime, anywhere
