About This Track

Halsey's 'Ego' arrives as a reckoning with the gap between public presentation and private collapse. The track moves from fired-up and angsty vocals to something more vulnerable, a power struggle where the act of naming these truths becomes the only victory available. She charts a descent through exhaustion, self-doubt and the weight of maintaining an image, before arriving at the core admission: a refusal to keep pretending she is happier than she actually is. The song draws on nineties-inflected rock production, all propulsive and gritty, but what anchors it is the specificity of the confession.
