About This Track

'Shortcomings' by Hookworms is a 2018 alternative track from the album 'Microshift'. The lyrics cast a post-party malaise in which love turns cynical and the mind, calloused by self-destruction, can only plead, “Don’t be so self-destructive”. There is a sense of emotional exhaustion too, with the speaker describing a shrinking capacity to cope, the feeling of being unable to hide, and a bleak list-like endurance. It ends on a clipped gesture towards erasure, as if the only escape is to wipe the page clean.

"Shortcomings" is a track by Hookworms, from the album Microshift, released 2nd February 2018. The track is 5:41 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 1 article about Hookworms.

Lyrics

Shortcomings

This party is nearly over
Lately, love feels cynical
Calloused mind of self-destruction
Lately I don't know

Don't be so self-destructive
I can't hide, I'm feeling fallow
Don't be so self-destructive
This list seems so endless
Just wanna plateau
Don't be so self-destructive
Erase, please erase it all
Don't be so self-destructive
This isolation stops me feeling more

I cannot bare to see my thorn
Disconnection, disconnection
I shouldn't blame if she's on flow
Disconnection, disconnection
I keep guard and I feel less strong
Disconnection, disconnection
Here where our bodies don't belong
Disconnection, disconnection

Found a way to love the world
I am tired out, I am
I'm tired out
Found a way to love the world
I remember the place where I first felt ashamed
Of my body and space
I was wrong, I was wrong

I cannot bare to see my thorn
Disconnection, disconnection
I shouldn't blame if she's on flow
Disconnection, disconnection
I keep guard and I feel less strong
Disconnection, disconnection
Here where our bodies don't belong
Disconnection, disconnection

Please just hold out
You gotta hold out, it will come
Let's talk about
When we were young and nothing mattered
Hold out, hold out and come
Please just hold out, hold out and come
And you've gotta hold out, hold out and come
I can't help feelin' helpless
Hold out, hold out, it'll come
Can't promise, almost over
Hold out, hold out, it'll come
I'm sorry, it's always been there
