About This Track

Illenium pairs serene bass-drops and chill instrumentals with Joni Fatora's vocal meditation on emotional distance. The track circles a single image: a heart armoured against connection, weapons rendered useless by the very person they're meant to keep out. Fatora sings from the perspective of someone watching a loved one retreat behind their own defences, the repetition of "you use your heart as a fortress" less accusation than plea. The production holds space for the vulnerability in her voice. There's no rush, no climactic release, just the patient architecture of a song that understands some distances are chosen, and some choices are hard to undo.
