About This Track

A jaded love song built on the tension between desire and resignation. The narrator watches someone he loves commit to another person, and the lyrics circle the wound without resolution: "It should be me / Oh, it should be me." There's no dramatic climax, no cathartic release. Instead, Interpol lets the bitterness settle in the details, the small intimacies he observes from outside, the evenings when "we are sleeping / We are sleeping," repetition turning ache into rhythm. The song moves between sharp observation and something closer to numbness. A couple walks by a lakeside; he notes the gesture, the stealth, the way some things last and others end fast. The melody doesn't fight the lyric's resignation. It holds steady, measured, letting the weight accumulate through repetition rather than volume. This is post-punk restraint: the refusal to make suffering loud.

"C'mere" is a track by Interpol, from the album Antics, released 23rd September 2004. The track is 3:12 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 15 articles about Interpol.

Lyrics

C'mere

It's way too late
To be this locked inside ourselves
The trouble is
That you're in love with someone else
It should be me
Oh, it should be me
Sacred parts
Your get aways
You come along
On summer days
Tenderly
Tastefully
And so may
We make time
Try and find somebody else
This place is mine
Set the day
You know exactly how I feel
I had my doubts, little girl
I'm in love with something real
It could be me
That's changing
And so may
We make time
To try and find somebody else
Who has a line
Now season with health
Two lovers walk a lakeside mile
Try pleasing with stealth, rodeo
See what stands long, ending fast
Oh, how I love you
In the evenings
When we are sleeping
We are sleeping
Oh, we are sleeping
And so may
We make time
We try and find somebody else
Who has a line
Now season with health
Two lovers walk a lakeside mile
Try pleasing with stealth, rodeo
See what stands long
Or ending fast
