'Narc' moves through desire and suspicion with the precision that defines Interpol's early work. The title invokes betrayal, the informant who trades loyalty for advantage, and the song channels that paranoia into its architecture: urgent, taut, the vocals circling around questions of trust and intimacy. Paul Banks sings of mysteries and gazing eyes that won't lie, but the repetition of "show some love and respect" suggests a relationship already fractured, where reassurance has become a demand rather than a given. The track builds its tension through restraint. Verses accumulate detail, bedroom scenes, old names, promises made in the dark, without resolution, whilst the chorus holds a single emotional note: the plea for reciprocal feeling. By the final repetition of "you should be in my space", the song has collapsed intimacy into something closer to surveillance, two people watching each other across an unbridgeable distance.
