About This Track

'City Hell' by Jockstrap is a 2020 alternative track from the EP 'Wicked City - EP'. The lyrics frame a retreat from a gilded life, with the speaker shedding a persona and feeling mislaid in a place that is not delivering the promised romance. A return home becomes a kind of disorientation, as the city’s surfaces keep rewriting the terms of contact, culminating in a bleakly intimate sense of being out of place. The most direct hook, “This isn't a city”, sets the tone for a world that refuses to match its sales pitch.

"City Hell" is a track by Jockstrap, from the album Wicked City - EP, released 18th June 2020. The track is 5:27 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 12 articles about Jockstrap.

Lyrics

City Hell

I came home, yeah, I flew in
I fled the penthouse suite
And shed my snake suit skin
This isn't a city
Where is the city?

Supposed to be looking for love
Oh, way out west I was

A taxi picked me up and dropped me off
Whilst he took in her face and her clothes off
In my room, in my room
I couldn't move on but look at you

My head hit the sink
I really scared him
And worse, I lost a friend in him
I'm not myself when I've been caning
It's been draining
To think I knew the drink trick

I'm not well, I'm not well
I burnt my face in the city
In city hell
You'll never know a deeper hell
I dragged it home so you could tell
That I'm not well

Do you want a piece of me?
Did you think that thing was me?
Do ya think that's who I wanna be?
None of you can manage me
Do ya think that's where I wanna be?
Something I don't wanna be
