About This Track

'Evolution' by Korn is an alternative track from 'Untitled' (2007). The lyrics find a narrator physically and obsessively unearthing what lies beneath, with a blunt refusal to be “refined” and a sceptical, evidence-led rejection of assimilation. Imagery of digging and tearing, along with the watchful breakage of a bow, gives the song a tense, confrontational edge. The repeated refrain of evolution frames the whole argument as a process that hurts, fails to tidy anyone up, and ends with the speaker still not convinced.
