About This Track

‘Ecstasy’ by Megadeth is a track from the album ‘Risk’, released in 1999. The lyrics paint a scene of fantasy and deception, with a speaker pulled into someone else’s tidy, controlled version of things, then departing when daylight comes. A repeated idea of trying to silence or suppress something gives the song a confrontational, coercive edge, undercut by the insistence that “good intention” and hidden truth do not quite add up.

"Ecstasy" is a track by Megadeth, from the album Risk, released 30th August 1999. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Ecstasy

[Verse 1]

You live in a world of fantasy

You live in a web of deceit

You want it all including me

You like it all to be neat

I come to you when shadows fall

I leave as the dawn arrives

Hide the truth to deceive them all

How my good intention lies

[Chorus]

Try to silence the suspicions

Feeding the dark inhibitions

We can never let anyone see

The sin I bring called ecstasy

The sin I bring, ecstasy

[Verse 2]

Secret meetings that we hide

Deeds of iniquity

The price of foolish pride

The cost of immorality

And we hide the truth to deceive them all

And the pain of what will never be

[Chorus]

Try to silence the suspicions

Feeding the dark inhibitions

We can never let anyone see

The sin I bring called ecstasy

Try to silence the suspicions

Feeding the dark inhibitions

We can never let anyone see

The sin I bring called ecstasy

The sin I bring, ecstasy

[Instrumental Break]

[Outro]

Try to silence the suspicions

Feeding the dark inhibitions

We can never let anyone see

The sin I bring called ecstasy

Try to silence the suspicions

Feeding the dark inhibitions

We can never let anyone see

The sin I bring called ecstasy

The sin I bring called ecstasy

The sin I bring called ecstasy

The sin I bring, ecstasy

Oh, ecstasy, ecstasy

Ooh, ooh, ecstasy
